Renewable energy has recently been identified as a critical component of a globally stable economy and has long been recognized for its benefits, such as cleaner air, reduced carbon emissions, conservation of natural resources, and long-term money savings. Several developing nations aspire to transition away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy sources like solar and wind power because it costs less and is better for the environment.
The thesis focuses on the technical and economic study of renewable energy supply for the city of Yanbu through grid-connected implementation or off-grid systems to supply the city with renewable energy. Nine cases will be studied to search for the optimal situation for supplying the city with energy from both technical and economic points of view. and Fifteen cases of renewable energy plants with a capacity of 850 megawatts will be studied according to the Saudi National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), and the optimal system will be selected from a technical and economic point of view. The grid-connected system consists of wind turbines (WT) and solar photovoltaic (PV) connected to the main power grid, while the off-grid system consists of wind turbines and solar PV, taking into account the load study of Yanbu. The Energy Storage System (ESS) plays a role in both systems (on-grid and off-grid). |
